PROFESSIONAL FAQS: IS CANNED SEAWEED AS GOOD FOR YOU AS FRESH SEAWEED?

Expert opinion from Cate F Keen

Canned seaweed can be just as beneficial for you as fresh seaweed. Even small amounts of seaweed can offer great nutrient benefits with great sources of magnesium, iron, vitamin A, Vitamin K, folate and B Vitamins. Consume any seaweed in moderation due to the potential for heavy metal toxicity that may arise from large doses. Seaweed also contains high amounts of iodine, so if you have thyroid complications, be sure to consult your health professional.

Some of the nutrients are always lost due to the exposure time of the canned algae. But that doesn't mean they aren't good for your health.
