Canned seaweed can be just as beneficial for you as fresh seaweed. Even small amounts of seaweed can offer great nutrient benefits with great sources of magnesium, iron, vitamin A, Vitamin K, folate and B Vitamins. Consume any seaweed in moderation due to the potential for heavy metal toxicity that may arise from large doses. Seaweed also contains high amounts of iodine, so if you have thyroid complications, be sure to consult your health professional.
Some of the nutrients are always lost due to the exposure time of the canned algae. But that doesn't mean they aren't good for your health.
Canned seaweed contains the similar nutritional properties as the fresh seaweed, although canned seaweed has higher amount of sodium and may have additives and preservatives.
