CARROTS WILL STAY ‘CRISP AND FRESH' FOR 7 DAYS LONGER WHEN STORED CORRECTLY IN THE FRIDGE

It may seem like common sense to place carrots in your fridge crisper drawer, but this is the wrong way to store them as it will cause them to spoil quickly.

Carrots need to be stored somewhere with a steady temperature to keep them fresh, and the drawer opening or closing constantly can cause them to deteriorate at a faster rate.

They also need to be stored in a humid environment, as this sensitive vegetable will begin to expire when it loses moisture and is exposed to the dry air inside the fridge.

Storing carrots correctly can seem complicated due to these requirements, but Taesha Butler, a cooking expert and founder of The Natural Nurturer has shared a "simple" food storage method that can keep carrots "crisp and fresh" for one week longer.

Taesha said: "Here is my tried-and-true tip for how to keep carrots crisp for days. This method makes keeping cut carrots easy for a handy grab-and-go veggie snack."

How to store carrots so they keep fresh for longer

The best way to keep carrots fresh is to chop them up, and then place the carrots in an airtight jar with a lid.

Then fill the jar with water, screw the lid on top of the mason jar and place the carrots on a shelf within your fridge.

Taesha said: "I like to use wide-mouth mason jars or old peanut butter jars to store my cut carrots, but any container that you have that is air-tight will work for storage.

"The important part is to cover the carrots with water to prevent them from drying out."

This method helps carrots maintain their moisture level and also keeps them at the same temperature, which means carrots stay firm and fresh.
